Description
This auction is for one (1) original US M1 carbine oilers, taken from a box that once held 50 Inland M1 carbine oilers. The box came from a master lot that was dated 1943. The box is marked on front with: "OILER, Gun, U.S. Carbine Cal. .30 M1, Ord. Dwg & Pc. Mk. C-64364, SNL Number -- B-18, Code Index Number -- o2-00020, Quantity (50), INLAND MANUFACTURING DIVISION, GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION." This auction is for one of the oilers only, the box is not included but I can provide a copy of the box label if the buyer requests it. ************* The M1 carbine oiler was designed to contained lubricating oil, the knurled metal screw-top had a small metal dipstick for applying the oil. The oil was kept from leaking out of the oiler by means of a leather washer. Oilers fit into the sling well cut into the stock of a carbine, they were held in place by a loop formed by the sling. Oilers were marked with a code for manufacturer, for Inland it was II. The oilers were interchangeable, any oiler would fit any carbine (Inland, Winchester, Underwood, Quality Hardware, Rock-Ola, Grand Rapids (by Irwin-Pedersen [IP] and Saginaw Gear [S'G']), Saginaw Gear, National Postal Meter, Standard Products, and IBM), they were not made specifically for any particular manufacturer. This oiler would therefore be correct for any US WWII carbine. ************** The oiler is in mint condition, removed from the box shown in the photos. It is complete with the original leather washer. Auction photos show the exact oiler you will receive, in the photo of the box containing four oilers, the one for sale in this auction is the one to the left of the three others. ************* Again this is an auction for one (1) oiler only, the box is not included. ************ Free shipping, sale to a US address only.
