    Description

    Jan ( Johannes ) Hus - Silver Medallic Thaler ( Taler )
    - Jan Hus was an early Bohemian ( Czech ) Reformer of the church and eventually a Christian Martyr.
    - This is an important historical medal of Jan Hus (obverse) and his execution (reverse) at the Council of Constance in 1415.  The year 2015 marked the 600th anniversary of his death.
    - Year Minted:  1730 or earlier
The Hus Thalers were first minted in Jachymov - (aka Joachimsthal) in Bohemia, in the year 1530 by M. Peuerlein, Hieronymus Magdeburger & H. Dietrich.   Later they were minted in Freiburg in celebration of the Reformation in years 1617, 1717 & 1730.   Some Thalers were marked by the engraver's intitials and some were not.  Those that were are more easily dated than those that were not marked.  This Thaler is not marked, so there are 4 possible dates for this Thaler: 1530, 1617, 1717 or 1730.
Some dealers provide a date without really knowing it with any certainty.  What is certain is that this Thaler that you will receive, was made in 1730 or earlier.  I have been collecting these for almost 2 decades and find it a most interesting medallion/coin.
