It is hoped that with a few tidbits of knowledge here and there, an average collector will avoid bogus stamps as well as save money when submitting stamps for expertising. Whether at Professional Stamp Experts, the Philatelic Foundation or any other certifying body that charges for its services, saving money on a certificate that would state that your stamp is altered or fake is better spent on more stamps, especially if the knowledge to detect that deception is readily available.
The name, The Book of Philatelic Secrets is based on a lesser definition of Secrets. The same way that the Secrets to a long and happy life or the Secrets to a good marriage is a secret only until a person chooses to investigate it, such are the Secrets in this book. These are not secrets that are being hidden from you. They wont make you an expert but they will make you a better, happier collector who avoids the bad news that your valuable collection is not-so-valuable.
In this 96 page full color book filled with pictures and illustrations, you will find many stamps shown in ways that were not possible ten years ago. Due to new technology, from better pictures to pictures using different light sources, ten years ago many of the articles in this book would not have been possible.
